Nielsen Adds Five Years to Swedish Ratings Contract

Sweden's audience measurement body MMS has extended Nielsen's contract for TV and video viewing data by five years.

Left to right: Krister Forsman - Nielsen,Pirjo Svedberg & Magnus Anshelm - MMSNielsen has been measuring TV in the Swedish market for almost 25 years and has been working with MMS (the Swedish Joint Industry Committee, Mediamätning i Skandinavien AB) for a large part of that. The contract includes enhanced and expanded services measuring TV and video viewing on TVs, Computers, Tablets and Smartphones.

Sweden's household panel will be expanded from 1,350 to 3,000, and will use new and enhanced People Meters. The new service will also add Streaming Meter measurement of OTT content from Digital Devices, VOD measurement, expanded Second Home and Non-TV Set home measurements, and complementary measurement with Nielsen Watermarking.

Toni Petra, the firm's EVP International Watch, comments: 'The service we're deploying in Sweden reflects a world-first, combining state-of-the-art technology with proven audience measurement experience. We're very proud to have worked with MMS, a valued client of many years, in the successful launch of this new service'. The country's highly developed broadband capabilities are one reason for the relevance of this pioneering approach. Krister Forsman (pictured left), Swedish Watch Client Service Director at Nielsen, says the additions will provide MMS with tools to support their build of the TV Viewing Totals in Sweden.

Magnus Anshelm (pictured right), CEO of MMS, says of the deal: 'MMS launched the World's first online video currency on the Swedish market already back in 2011. Since then MMS has been improving the currency step by step, but the fragmentation of the online and linear viewing has increased. The pressure on MMS from the market in order to move on further towards a total video currency, including viewing on all devices, has therefore been massive. Nielsen's solutions with an expanded TAM panel and streaming meters are essential pieces in the puzzle we are putting together to meet the demands from the very mature TV and video market in Sweden'.
