eBay Buys eCommerce Researcher Terapeak

Internet giant eBay has acquired Canadian eCommerce research specialist Terapeak for an undisclosed sum.

Terapeak analyses and predicts consumer and product behavior for sellers on eBay, Amazon, Shopify and Alibaba. Its analysis covers more than $75bn in annual gross merchandise value (GMV), and is used to evaluate pricing, sourcing opportunities, market trends and product behavior across regions and competitors.

Terapeak and eBay have been in a data partnership since 2004, and eBay says once the deal is finalized it plans to integrate some of Terapeak's functionality into its Seller Hub. Bob Kupbens (pictured), VP of B2C Selling at eBay, comments: 'Nearly two million sellers currently manage their eBay business on Seller Hub, and expanding it to provide additional capabilities from Terapeak will help our sellers more effectively manage their businesses on eBay. The integration of Terapeak's functionalities into Seller Hub - from sales history and performance enhancement opportunities to price guidance and comparisons - will continue to help eBay's merchants scale their businesses'.
