In the US, the Advertising Research Foundation has named Levi Strauss exec Barbara Murrer as Chairperson of its Board. She is the first female marketer to hold the position and the first person to be based on the West Coast.

Barbara MurrerThe ARF is dedicated to creating, curating, and sharing advertising research to enable its 400 members to make an impact on their advertising. Murrer (pictured) takes the chair with more than 25 years' experience in the global packaged goods and apparel industries, and an extensive background of using insights to inform strategy, innovation and financial decisions. As Senior Director of Marketplace Insights for Levi Strauss & Co, she oversees an integrated insights team leading work across Asia, Europe and the Americas. Prior to joining Levi's in 2010, she spent more than fifteen years at The Clorax Company, latterly heading the Insights team for the Cleaning Division and International groups. Before this, she held positions at Nielsen/Kraft General Foods, and Bank of America.

As Chair of the ARF, Murrer succeeds Jed Meyer, Director, Brand Measurement at Google, who has held the position since 2016. Scott McDonald, ARF CEO and President, comments: 'Barb's appointment is truly reflective of the evolution underway at the ARF. Her being the first Chair based on the West Coast corresponds to the ever increasing importance of companies based in California, Oregon and Washington. Barb's position as a marketer will keep the role brands play front and center at the ARF. Her work and expertise here will enhance the ARF's role as a primary provider of consumer insights'.
