Tobii Unveils 'Nano' Portable Eye Tracker

Eye tracking solutions firm Tobii has launched Tobii Pro Nano, described as the world's smallest research-grade eye tracker. The tool plugs into the USB port of a Windows laptop or tablet and is ready for high quality tracking after 'a quick calibration'.

Nano collects gaze data at 60 hertz (Hz) and Tobii says its size allows researchers to take their attention-based studies outside the lab environment, and universities to provide students with a portable research lab as part of their curriculum.

As with the company's other tools Nano integrates with the Tobii Pro Lab, software, used to design studies, analyze data and visualize the results - it also allows integration of other biometric data streams such as EEG and GSR (galvanic skin response).

The launch builds on a legacy of portable product design at Tobii - as many as seven years ago the company launched the idea of a portable lab via its Tobii X1 Light Eye Tracker. Since that time, the quality available from a compact device has improved massively.

Divisional President Tom Englund (pictured) says of the latest launch: 'We want to make eye tracking research more accessible and efficient to meet the growing demand for flexibility in terms of study locations. With Tobii Pro Nano, researchers and students now have access to a portable eye tracking lab and can head to an off-site location to collect eye tracking data in natural environments such as a mall, hospital or a university campus'.
