56 Degree Insight Launches Scottish Tourism Index

Edinburgh agency 56 Degree Insight has launched the Scottish Tourism Index survey, to monitor the views of Scots during the Covid-19 pandemic about future holidays and leisure.

56 Degree Insight Launches Scottish Tourism IndexSet up a year ago by former Kantar TNS directors Jim Eccleston and Duncan Stewart, 56 Degree Insight works across a range of sectors - tourism and leisure, transport, the natural environment, energy, culture, food and drink; and the Scottish market generally. Areas of expertise include consumer and B2B research covering customer experience, and brand U&A surveys.

The new Scottish Tourism Index aims to uncover where Scots will want to go first when conditions allow, and what they will take into account when planning that trip. Its first wave was undertaken earlier this month, and changes in opinions and likely behaviour will be tracked on a monthly basis for the foreseeable future. Fieldwork for the online survey of 500 Scottish adults - a representative sample of the Scottish population weighted by age, gender, socio-economic grouping and region of origin - was conducted by Populus Data Solutions.

According to Eccleston and Stewart, the initial survey found that for most Scots, Covid-19 is forcing a reconsideration of attitudes and opinions about holidays and breaks in the future. Results of the first waive have already been shared with VisitScotland to help its policy teams develop strategy.
