Google Promotes Analyst Raghavan to Head of Search

In the US, Google has moved former Yahoo! Labs research head Prabhakar Raghavan into the senior role of 'Head of Search and Assistant', reporting directly to Google CEO Sundar Pichai.

Prabhakar RaghavanRaghavan (pictured) joined Google in 2012, after serving as Head of the Yahoo! Labs research unit, which was established to focus on advertising and audience sciences, along with data-driven analysis and economic models. During his time with Yahoo!, Raghavan specialized in search technologies such as text and web mining, and algorithm design. He previously worked as CTO at Verity and held a number of technical and managerial positions at IBM Research, as well as serving as a consulting professor of Computer Science at Stanford University.

Raghavan, who most recently oversaw Ads and Commerce, now takes over responsibility for Google's Search, GEO, Ads, Commerce and Payments teams; and replaces Ben Gomes who will move to a new role with responsibility across Education and Arts & Culture.

Pichai comments: 'Prabhakar has spent more than two decades obsessing over algorithms and ranking, and his association with Google Search predates Google. A member of the National Academy of Engineering, Prabhakar is one of the most respected engineering minds in our field. His experience working across so many of our product areas gives him the perfect lens to spot the seams between them'.
