Nielsen Sports Closes in Singapore

Nielsen Sports has closed its office in Singapore, as part of its parent's recently announced measures to drive 'operational efficiencies' and optimise Nielsen's global footprint.

Marco NazzariNielsen announced three days ago it was carrying out an 'optimization plan' to drive permanent cost savings and operational efficiencies, which will result in the loss of around 3,500 of its c.46,000 employees. The firm also plans to exit several smaller, underperforming markets and non-core businesses in H2 2020.

Marco Nazzari (pictured), MD international at Nielsen Sports, confirmed to online publication SportBusiness that the closure in Singapore was part of that plan, adding: 'Asia remains an important market for Nielsen Sports. While Nielsen is maintaining a presence in Singapore, we're centralising our Nielsen Sports presence for Asia in Japan to leverage deep industry knowledge and expertise across the region, while effectively keeping pace with client needs'.

Chong Moon Yee, Head of Nielsen Sports in Southeast Asia, who is also executive director of Nielsen Media in Singapore, is staying on, but SportBusiness says it believes that most, if not all, of the rest of the Nielsen Sports Singapore staff have now left.
