US Workers More Optimistic
American employees are feeling happier about the state of the companies they work for and the positions they hold at those companies, according to results published by Maritz Poll.
57 percent say the company they work for is doing better compared to a year ago and 79 percent are confident they will have their current job six months from now.
One likely factor in this is the fact that corporations are hiring again. 44% said that in the past year their companies have seen a reduction in the workforce in order to cut costs, but 30% now say that their immediate work groups plan to add new people who are not simply replacements for people who recently left.
Positive feelings are more widespread in manufacturing industry, where nearly two thirds (65%) of respondents felt that their companies were on the upswing, then in service industries (51%). Less surprisingly, managers (65%) are more likely than non-managers (52%) to describe their company as 'doing better'.
'Employees clearly believe the corporate world they inhabit is on an upswing', according to Rick Garlick, Ph.D., a director of consulting and strategic implementation for Maritz Research. 'Companies are finally starting to feel confident enough about the country's long-term economic prospects to begin hiring again'.
The national consumer opinion survey was carried out between 15th and 18th March among 1,002 randomly selected adults working full time and more than 30 hours a week. Maritz Poll comprises bimonthly surveys on topics related to the automotive, financial services, hospitality, retail, technology, and telecommunications sectors as well as workplace issues.
