Conjointly Offers Grant to Analyse AI Safety with MR

In Australia, survey platform Conjointly is offering an AUD 20k research grant, open to researchers from any field who are interested in applying market research techniques to the problem of AI safety. The grant is open to both individuals and teams.

Nik SamoylovFounded in 2016 by Nik Samoylov (pictured) Conjointly provides access to an all-in-one survey research platform, millions of respondents, support from researchers, and advanced tools such as conjoint analysis, AI summaries of open-ended text, and monadic tests. The firm describes the issue of AI safety as a complex problem that requires the expertise of researchers from a variety of fields, including computer science, philosophy, economics, psychology and sociology.

Conjointly's grant is being offered to an individual or team to investigate the issue of AI safety research, which the firm says it believes will play a role in AI alignment using MR techniques. The deadline for submitting an application is 1st May 2023, and the submission needs to relate to a practical problem that resonates with the general public, while listing the research methods needed to solve that problem, and the proposed methods for disseminating the research. The winning bid will receive access to Conjointly's team of market researchers to help with research methodology, as well as to its tools.

In a statement, Conjointly explains: 'For most people, reasoning machines were unfathomable a few months ago - now they are available at our fingertips. It makes the topic of AI safety crucial, which should be discussed out in public, in the media, and at all levels of government. AI will impact all aspects of life. Hence, we must address the topic from all angles, including with market research'.
