Privacy Index Launched

TNS is launching a 'Consumer Privacy Index', a quarterly study of consumer attitudes and behaviours on privacy topics, in partnership with online privacy certification provider TRUSTe.

The Index will monitor consumer perceptions of the benefits and risks of online transactions, and track their reactions to privacy issues, providing a resource for privacy professionals, advocates and the media. The first full results from the Index will be released at the end of November.

TRUSTe's Executive Director and President Fran Maier says companies are collecting and using information in 'more beneficial ways than ever... but daily advances in technology introduce new threats to privacy and have the potential to erode trust between legitimate businesses and consumers'.

TRUSTe is an independent, nonprofit organization founded in 1997, running an global privacy certification and seal program considered Safe Harbors for the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the EU Safe Harbor Framework. It certifies more than 1,400 Web sites throughout the world including AOL, Microsoft, IBM, Nationwide and The New York Times. TNS is online at www.tns-global.com and TRUSTe at www.truste.org
