Digital Signage Firm Buys to Add Shopper Behavior Data

In Tampa, Florida, digital signage company Spectrio has paid an undisclosed sum to acquire InReality, which uses radar-based sensing technology to measure and analyse shopper behaviour.

Spectrio buys measurement sensor firmThe buy complements Spectrio's range of services which already include CMS signage software, content production, overhead music, on-hold messaging, scent marketing and Wi-Fi marketing, and will allow it to pursue more aggressive growth, offering customers improved conversion. InReality CEO Ron Levac will join Spectrio's leadership team as Product Expert for Analytics and Intelligence Solutions.

Atlanta, GA-based InReality claims its approach avoids the privacy issues raised by other trackers which work with video streams captured by on-premise cameras: its small, fully anonymous, radar-based sensors can be mounted on retail fixtures, walls or ceilings and capture and track the presence of people, giving an improved understanding of foot traffic and clues to engagement based on dwell time and proximity.

Results are fed to desktop or mobile dashboards or flowed via APIs into business systems tools such as Microsoft's Power BI, and used to optimize factors such as content programming and screen positioning.

Spectrio CEO Tamara Bebb comments: 'This acquisition is a game changer for us and for our clients. We have 30 seconds of your attention. We know what you're interested in, what's important to you, and what isn't. We can use that information to then target the right content towards you. We're thrilled to have InReality in our corner supporting this journey'.
