Census Bureau to Consult New Advisory Committee

In the US, the Census Bureau has announced it will establish a new federal Advisory Committee to consult on meeting the challenges posed by the next decennial count in 2030.

Robert L. SantosThe Bureau says the 2030 Census Advisory Committee is part of its efforts to 'engage with diverse voices' and seek external perspectives on its plans to 'address census undercounts, communicate with different communities and collect census information in an easy and efficient way'.

Nominations for panel members are invited from the US public. Duties include reviewing and commenting on the Bureau's plans to increase awareness and promote participation; considering how to u se new technology and media; involving tribal, state and local governments and reaching out to historically undercounted populations; comment on the content, timing and appropriateness of proposed Census data products; and provide recommendations on recruitment of Census employees.

Members will serve as representatives of their respective group or viewpoint, and the first meeting is planned for late 2023 or early 2024.
