Homes Fit for Heroes?

Sixty per cent of UK workers are proud of who they work for, according to employee research specialist ORC International. Housing sector employees top the table, with 72%'proud to work for their organisation'.

The annual report reviews trends in UK employee opinion over time and by industry, using data derived from ORC Perspectives, ORC's employee survey benchmarking database, which represents opinions from around 1.4 million employees.

Kerry Price, HR Manager at The National Housing Federation said: 'Housing sector employees work in a caring sector and make a difference to people's lives. It's an opportunity to use knowledge and experience to give something back to the community, and individuals certainly take pride in the contribution they make'.

Housing sector employees are the most satisfied in terms of being able to strike the right balance between their work and home life (71% vs 64% for all sectors), and very likely to be aware of their organisation's long term goals (74% vs national average 64% and 51% for local government employees. However, if they do have a problem with the way something works, they may suppress it: only 40 % of housing sector employees think it is safe to speak up and challenge the way things are done within the organisation - 7% below the overall average of 47% and the least favourable score across all sectors.

The sector is also characterised by high turnover - only 58% of employees intend to still be working for the same organisation in twelve month's time, versus 70% in local government, 67% in central government and a UK norm of 66%.
