Nielsen Props Up the Bar

ACNielsen US has added On-Premise Audits to its extensive range of information support services for the beverage alcohol industry. The new service measures and analyses the presence of distilled spirits in bars, restaurants, hotels and recreational facilities in major markets across the country.

The Audits are conducted in more than 2,600 establishments in 26 major US markets, and captures the following data:
  • the presence of major distilled spirit brands on the back bar
  • the presence and price of selected brands in the 'well' beneath the bar
  • table-top promotions
  • which brands are featured on the menus of casual and formal restaurants, bars, nightclubs, hotels and recreational facilities.
The data are projected across all establishments in each market.

Danny Brager, VP of ACNielsen's Beverage Alcohol client service team says that manufacturers need to know where their products are placed: 'Their sales are impacted by whether their brand is more or less visible than competing brands on the back of the bar in a nightclub or on the menu of a fine restaurant'. The On-Premise Audits 'help clients to place their brands where consumers are most likely to see them'.

Related information products and services from ACNielsen include Scantrack(r); Convenience Track(r); LiquorTrack(r); census-based trade area reports; the Internet-based Sales Management Planner for field sales forces; and the Homescan(r) consumer panel.
