Survey to Compare UK MR Agency Prices

Independent consultants Richard Horswell and Roger Wheatley are commencing the 2005 round of their annual survey of UK MR agency prices. The £quotecheck 2005 survey is designed to help companies find out how their rates compare with the competition.

The survey aims to compare prices for various research projects across a range of MR agencies. Wheatley, of Gem Research, and Horswell, founder of RHMR research, have drawn up specifications for several fictional projects, using a variety of methodologies, and are asking agencies to quote for as many projects as they wish. Participants have to pay a £50 entrance fee, plus £75 per methodology.

In return, they receive a report showing all the quotations submitted for the project, plus a brief independent overview for each agency. Details of individual agencies' quotes will remain confidential. Participants can also choose to provide a breakdown of costs or respondent incentives, and will then receive the equivalent information from other contributors.

First conducted in 1998, £quotecheck has consistently found a wide range of prices across agencies. Horswell says the idea for the survey came from his experience on the client side, where he tended to receive a vast array of prices for each project. He notes that most agencies 'had no idea how their prices compared with competitors', and believes the results of the survey will help companies 'gain business and improve profitability'.
