Arbitron VP to Lead Sales for Project Apollo

US radio measurement company Arbitron has promoted Joan FitzGerald to VP in its Portable People Meter (PPM) New Product Development Group. She will lead sales and development efforts for the Arbitron side of Project Apollo - the multimedia and purchase monitoring service being run in conjunction with ACNielsen.

FitzGerald began her career at Arbitron as an Analyst in the Broadcast Radio division. She then held business development and management roles in the company's New Media division. Most recently, she worked as Director of Marketing and Operations for the Internet sector, managing business strategies and research services. She is one of the founders of the comScore/Arbitron online radio ratings service.

She has also helped to secure several subscribers for the Project Apollo pilot. She will now work full-time on the pilot's test panel, overseeing the needs of subscribing advertisers, the media and VNU. She will report to Linda Dupree, Senior VP for the PPM/National Marketing Panel.

Speaking of the appointment, Dupree stated: 'Joan's experience in media and research will enable Arbitron to expand its Project Apollo subscriber base, while enabling current subscribers to understand its consumer value.'

Project Apollo combines Arbitron's PPM media measurement tool with ACNielsen's Homescan technology and additional surveys to collect details of consumers' multimedia exposure and resulting shopping behaviour. The companies are currently running a pilot with 5,000 households.

The company is online at www.arbitron.com
