Ipsos Buy Adds Czech and Slovak Coverage

Ipsos has agreed to acquire a minority stake in the Tambor Group, the 3rd largest survey-based research company in the Czech and Slovak markets; increasing to a two thirds holding by 2009.

Established in 1992 by Radek Jaluvka, Tambor focuses on FMCG, retail, financial services and pharmaceutical sectors, and has seen rapid growth in recent years. It offers both qual and quant research.

Ipsos already has a strong position in Central and Eastern Europe and claims market leadership in Russia, Hungary and Romania plus a top five ranking in Poland and the Ukraine. It employs more than 400 employees in the region.

Shane Farrell, CEO of Ipsos Central Eastern Europe, says Tambor is 'a much needed complement to our business in CEE... We work with many of our key clients on a regional basis, so with Tambor we will now be able to offer even greater consistency in cross-regional research programs. The Czech and Slovak Republics are primary strategic markets for us, and integrating Tambor's expertise and coverage rounds out our complete offering in the region.'

Jaluvka comments: 'Our goal is to become number one on the Czech and Slovak markets by utilizing the combined synergy of Ipsos' and Tambors' know-how.'
