Unica and NetRatings Make Peace

Unica Corporation has announced that it has settled a dispute with online measurement company NetRatings, inherited when the former acquired technology company Sane Solutions on March 22 this year. Unica will license a number of NetRatings' patents on a non-exclusive basis for a one-time fee of $1.5 million.

Under the terms of the agreement, NetRatings has agreed to dismiss all legal claims against Unica, a supplier of Enterprise Marketing Management (EMM) solutions.

Unica Corporation CEO Yuchun Lee says the agreement is both 'attractive to Unica and our shareholders' and positive for the firm's customers. 'We are pleased that we were able to come to a relatively quick agreement with NetRatings, enabling the company to focus 100% on executing our growth strategy and making our customers successful.'

Sane Solutions was one of several companies to have attracted the attention of NetRatings' lawyers in the last year. NetRatings' President and CEO William Pulver made it clear in a statement in February that the firm would 'aggressively pursue and expand our patent enforcement program', commenting: 'Our patented technologies are at the core of NetRatings' high quality, innovative product portfolio.' The company settled a lawsuit with Ominture in March - www.mrweb.com/drno/news5237.htm - and also sued and was countersued by WebSideStory in February - www.mrweb.com/drno/news5223.htm .

The parties to the settlement are online at www.unica.com and www.netratings.com .
