Google Sites Take UK's Top Spot

comScore Networks has revealed that Google web properties edged out those of Microsoft in October to become the most visited in the UK for the first time. EBay, Yahoo! and BBC sites round out the top 5.

The stats are based on data collected through the comScore World Metrix audience ratings service. The figure for Google Sites does not include YouTube.

'We have watched the popularity of Google consistently grow over time,' said Bob Ivins, Managing Director of comScore Europe. 'While the current month-over-month increase was small, it was just enough to earn them the number one spot.'

US data on online searching, also out last week, shows Google consolidating its position ahead of Yahoo! and Microsoft sites, having captured 45.4% of the US search market during the same period – up 0.3% from September and up 6.4% compared with October 2005.

Google's stock price hit another milestone on Tuesday, rising above $500 for the first time to $505.35 in morning Nasdaq trading, representing a 2.1% increase over Monday's closing price. The stock's IPO price was $85 in August 2004.
