Brits are the Biggest Boozers
While people's drinking habits vary considerably across the world, Europeans have the highest levels of alcohol consumption, according to the latest from Global TGI (Target Group Index). Latin Americans and Turks prop up the table, whereas for many in the UK, the reverse may be true.
The results also highlighted that the majority of Eastern and Western Europeans, Israelis, Australians and Americans enjoy a tipple, but in Latin America - despite the popular image of the tequila-swigging Mexican - just a fifth of adults drink alcohol at least once a week.
Among the countries surveyed, Turkey has the lowest rates of alcohol use. While 99% of the country's population is Muslim, 15% of Turks did openly admit to drinking alcohol.
Beer is the most popular alcoholic drink in the majority of countries - even in Russia, where half the population drinks beer compared with the 37% who knock back the national drink, vodka.
