Restaurant Analyst Puts New Tracker on the Menu

Restaurant market intelligence provider, Restaurantchains.net, has developed an analytical research system called RCO2000 to track and compare growth among US and Canadian restaurant chains.

Since 1996, the firm has produced a weekly restaurant and foodservice sales lead bulletin based on research which is gathered from 7,000 restaurant companies and accessed by around 10,000 subscribers, including marketing managers, salespeople and other foodservice professionals.

The new benchmarking database enables clients to search on a number of fields – such as city, cuisine, service style, meal periods, alcohol license, initial period tracked and projected future growth – to create tailored reports.

Restaurantchains.net Publisher, Keith Gellman explained how the data is compiled: 'We have taken a large subset of 2,000 chains in which most have less than 50 units. Then, we contact each company every trimester taking a hard look at their location unit counts and company specific changes.'

The database also contains information on:
  • Unit growth and decline over time
  • Primary growth factors in new restaurant chains
  • Market segment analysis
  • Local market intelligence on mergers, buyouts, expansions and closures.
It allows cross tab analysis to identify, size and prioritise new opportunities; as well as spreadsheets to allow analysis of market research, franchise research and competitive data by market segment.

RestaurantChains.net also publishes FoodserviceReport, a weekly bulletin on new restaurant openings and changes of ownership, and is online at www.restaurantchains.net .
