Arbritron Inks Crawford PPM Deal in Chicago

Crawford Broadcasting has entered into a multi-year deal to use Arbitron's Portable People Meter (PPM) audience measurement system, once it is in place in Chicago next January.

Houston's Cox Radio recently signed a five-year renewal contract with Arbitron, which included use of the PPM alongside continued tests opf the rival Ipsos/Media Audit smart cell-phone (www.mrweb.com/drno/news6833.htm ).

During the next three years, Arbitron is scheduled to use the PPM methodology in the top 50 markets in place of the paper and pencil diary method that the company has used to collect radio audience estimates since 1965. Philadelphia was the first market to make the switch to PPM in April, Houston will transfer in July, and New York will begin the transition in October. Los Angeles and Riverside-San Bernardino will also switch next January.

Crawford Broadcasting was founded as a pioneer in Christian broadcasting in 1959, and currently operates 26 AM and FM radio stations in 12 markets, with four FM outlets in the Chicago area. The firm is online at www.crawfordbroadcasting.com . Arbitron, which recently reported Q1 revenues up 7.9%, is on the net at www.arbitron.com .
