Merlinco's Motown Maestro Takes MOJO

Keith Hughes, Development Director of UK survey software firm Merlinco, has accepted a prestigious MOJO music award on behalf of Universal Music for its Complete Motown Singles Volume 6 1966, which Hughes co-produced.

Keith Hughes 'Surprised and flattered', and (below) with Kevin Rowland of Dexys Midnight Runners, and Andrea CorrHughes, who told DRNO he was extremely surprised and flattered to have been part of the team which scooped the award, was approached to assist with the project to transfer the entire collection onto CD because of his personal knowledge of Motown music gained through a lifetime's passion for the subject. He has now been working on the collection for the past ten years; painstakingly looking through the Motown archive, recommending the index, and then helping re-master each of the tracks (transferring them from analogue to digital and then bringing them up to today's quality standards).

In total he has assisted with the production of 12 volumes; each representing a year in Motown's history and each containing six CDs. The winning Volume 6 contains classics such as: Jimmy Ruffin's What Becomes Of The Broken-hearted and The Four Tops' – Reach Out I'll Be There.

Monday night's MOJO awards were held in The Brewery in London's East End, where Hughes rubbed shoulders with stars such as Iggy Pop, Björk and Ozzy Osbourne, with prizes presented by Andrea Corr. Hughes said that while opportunities to stand next to Miss Corr 'are few and far between in the survey research software business, I don't think I'll be giving up my day job just yet!'
