Healthcare Researcher Adds Leaflet-Testing Unit

Select Research, the UK agency working on a replacement for the 200-year old Body Mass Index, has set up a specialist division for user testing of Patient Information Leaflets.

Josie Arnott will head the new 'PIL User Testing' division as Project Manager. The division offers pharma firms user testing of their leaflets with appropriate patient profiling, and follows EC legislation in March 2004 requiring PILs to reflect the results of consultations with target patient groups - a scheme administered in the UK by the MHRA. Companies have until July 2008 to comply, and must present a mock-up PIL during the pilot stage. Select says its 'scores' of user tests for clients over the past two years have all resulted in PILs passing the MHRA review and allowed licensing of the relevant drugs.

MD Richard Barnes says clients acknowledge that his company has 'the discipline and research management that the User Testing process requires', adding: 'We involve clients in the initial pilot stages of the PIL Testing and this collaborative approach reaps dividends when it comes to the later filing of the leaflet with the MHRA'.

In March (www.mrweb.com/drno/news6602.htm ), Select announced that it would work on a 'Body Benchmark Study' aimed at establishing the Body Volume Index as a new alternative to the BMI, used by physicians since 1830. Select also conducts the National Sizing Survey for the UK Government.

The company's home page is at www.selectresearch.com , with a specific site for the new launch at www.pilusertesting.co.uk.
