New Leading Light for Lux

Emerging technology specialist Lux Research, Inc. has a new Chief Executive. Dennis Philbin joins from IDC where he was Senior VP for Vertical Market Business Units and New Ventures.

Based in the firm's Boston office, he succeeds co-founder Peter Hebert, who will remain Chairman. Philbin spent more than a dozen years at IDC and led the design and launch of the series of 'Insights' business units dedicated to industry-specific technology issues facing leaders in the financial services, energy, health, manufacturing, retail, and government sectors. His additional role managing IDC's products for investors and industrial customers included responsibility for the fast-growing TechInvestor product.

He also served as Managing Director of IDC Asia/Pacific, overseeing its 14-country Asian operations; and as an operating board member for IDG companies Computerworld and BioIT World. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin.

Hebert describes Philbin as a proven 'entrepreneurial leader and hands-on operator' with a 'relentless focus on customer satisfaction and new product innovation'. Lux Research President Matthew M. Nordan adds: 'His success in scaling and managing information businesses will be instrumental as we launch new research products and move more aggressively in international markets.'

Philbin himself says a significant market opportunity exists for information firms in the sector due to 'the accelerating pace of innovation in the physical sciences'.
