BDRC Buys Continental from Arbitron

London-based BDRC has acquired Continental Research from its US owner Aribtron. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Based in the City of London, Continental has more than 40 staff and in 2007 turned over c.£7m. The company operates in the financial services and travel sectors - both BDRC specialities - while also focusing on media / advertising, public sector and technology research.

BDRC CEO Cris Tarrant said that the acquisition will complement and extend his firm's offering, and added: 'Continental is well respected with a loyal client base. Its staff have extensive research industry experience - we want to continue to provide an excellent service to the clients of both businesses and we can only do this by retaining and supporting excellent people.'

Following completion of the deal, the combined BDRC Group will have more than 100 permanent staff and annual revenues of more than £16m.

Continental's MD Dave Chilvers said he is looking forward to working with BDRC to create 'the synergies that can develop in a larger group'.

BDRC's recent activity follows the appointment of research industry veteran Ivor Stocker as Chairman. Stocker, who was formerly Chairman of NOP and the trade body BMRA (www.mrweb.com/drno/news3667.htm ), has been guiding BDRC through its development strategy.

The firms, which will retain both their offices and trading styles, are on the net at www.bdrc.co.uk and www.continentalresearch.com.

This news follows last month's announcement that BDRC has been appointed as the UK representative of international research network, Associated Global Market Research (www.mrweb.com/drno/news7873.htm ).
