Nielsen To Create Bulgarian Internet Measurement Standard

Nielsen Online has signed a contract with a consortium of Bulgarian media companies to develop a common audience measurement currency in the country.

Alongside its local partner, marketing research firm Noema, Nielsen Online will provide a service that tracks and reports on more than 70 web sites. Likely users of the results will include companies that develop Internet products, ad agencies, media planners and potential investors.

As well as the consortium members, additional Internet companies will be invited to participate in the project, which will assess the number of unique browsers, page impressions, user sessions, frequency, in-depth path analysis, technical insight and other relevant metrics. In addition, demographic segmentation, user profiles and behaviour will also be measured.

Stefan Raum, VP Central Europe of Nielsen Online comments: 'Having a common platform for audience measurement is key for the development of the online industry and I'm very excited that so many key players in the Bulgarian market are involved. The Nielsen Company is well positioned to support the existing and future needs of the European market, and this is a key step towards that goal.'

The consortium comprises: Net Info BG; Investor.BG; Economedia; Mail.BG; Web Media Group; Sinera; Darik News; and Sanoma Bliasak Bulgaria.

Last October, Nielsen combined its Nielsen//NetRatings division with BuzzMetrics to form Nielsen Online (www.mrweb.com/drno/news7445.htm ). The, which firm delivers measurement and analysis of online audiences, advertising, video, consumer-generated media, word-of-mouth, commerce and consumer behaviour, is online at www.nielsen-online.com , while partner Noema is on the web at www.noema.bg.
