Former Ofcom MR Head to Join BBC

Ofcom's former Director of Market Research and current Director of Media Literacy and Convergent Media, Helen Normoyle, is to join the BBC in May as Head of Audiences.

She became Ofcom's MR chief in 2003, later moving on to lead the team which developed the statutory requirement for the promotion of media literacy into one of Ofcom's priorities for the coming year. At the BBC she replaces Chris Mundy, who is joining broadcast advertising organisation Clearcast as MD.

Normoyle started her career at Infratest+GfK, then spent time at Motorola as Director of Global Consumer Insights and Product Marketing for mobile devices, working in Europe, North America, Latin America and Asia.

Tim Davie, BBC Director of Marketing, Communications and Audiences, comments: 'Helen brings a wealth of experience with her and we are delighted that she will be joining us.'

Normoyle says she will be 'very sad to leave Ofcom' but adds: 'It's very clear that audiences are right at the heart of the BBC and that's what makes this such an exciting prospect and challenge for me.'
