BuzzLogic Buys to Enhance Web Analysis Offer

San Francisco-based social media specialist BuzzLogic has acquired blog retrieval firm Activeweave. The buy is intended to enhance the firm's analysis of online influence, and to strengthen and grow its Conversation Targeting solution.

Activeweave's core product BlogRovR enables users to view relevant content from their favorite bloggers as they browse the Internet. Every time a user views a web page, BlogRovR fetches content from a list of pre-selected bloggers, and if they have written about something similar, relevant content is displayed within the browser. The system currently monitors approximately 200,000 blogs.

'The Activeweave team has built user-friendly applications that complement how we analyze web content for influence,' explained BuzzLogic's CEO Rob Crumpler. 'BlogRovR provides wisdom of the crowds understanding and we can layer that knowledge to further enhance how we're identifying influence for advertisers.'

As part of the deal, BuzzLogic has retained the leadership team of CTO Jean Sini and CEO Marc Meyer, who become CTO and SVP of Products respectively. Prior to co-founding Activeweave, Sini spent 15 years building large-scale platforms and managing international engineering teams at companies like Oracle and Symbol Technologies (since acquired by Motorola). Meyer brings with him more than 23 years of experience in research and management, including early work with the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC).

Last year, BuzzLogic obtained $9.6m in venture capital funding, and later beta tested an Ad Targeting feature, promising advertisers the ability to spot individual online conversations about products, brands and issues in order to rapidly create targeted advertising.
