IDC Launches Small IT Vendor Service

In the US, technology market intelligence firm IDC has launched a new service to help venture capital, private equity and merger and acquisition analysts assess smaller IT retailers.

The Private Vendor Watch Service (PVWS) includes company profiles written by IDC analysts which address corporate strategies, funding activity, technology and market analysis, factors for success, and business enablers. These profiles are supplemented by in-depth market assessments.

'The goal is to provide a clearer understanding of who these small companies are and where they fit in an IT market,' explained Senior Analyst Ryan Patterson. 'To achieve this, we are leveraging IDC's market expertise and data to bring clarity to the profile and prospects of these small, private vendors.'

Hundreds of private technology companies provide IDC with the information upon which the PVWS is based. More than 100 company profiles were created prior to the launch, and while these initial profiles are focused on US companies, the firm is planning to roll out international coverage by the end of 2008, as well as add more than 200 company profiles annually.

Joe Loiselle, VP of IDC's Global IT Advisory Services, said that PVWS is a 'significant improvement' over the private company information offered by other information sources.

IDC employs more than 900 analysts in over 90 countries. The company recently opened a base in Canberra, Australia for its Government Insights practice. Web site: www.idc.com .
