TechSmith Updates Usability Platform

US-based screen capture software firm TechSmith has updated its usability-testing platform to include support for digital video and provide the ability to run unmoderated sessions.

The firm's Morae software can be used in focus groups, and for prototype testing, qualitative market and educational research to enable organizations to collect and analyze customer feedback throughout the product design process.

Morae aims to capture the total user experience by recording and synchronizing activity such as mouse movements, time spent on a specific task, the number of mouse clicks per page, error rates, facial expressions and verbal remarks. This information can then be used to optimize site navigation and usability, and for validation of designs, features, and workflow.

Version 3's new features include the ability to record directly from a digital video camera, plus an option to 'Run AutoPilot', allowing organizations to conduct unmoderated user experience sessions or gather data from public kiosks, or at a tradeshow booth.

Cross-recording searches can be conducted to compare a number of recordings from a study, to quickly analyze and communicate any commonalities or patterns among tester experience.

Multiple surveys can also be delivered during sessions, including pre-test surveys to collect demographic information, post-task surveys to collect perceived success, and post test surveys to measure satisfaction.

'Regardless of the product, from mobile devices to software applications to web sites, and no matter the type of research needed, Morae 3 supports it all to deliver actionable insight efficiently and cost effectively,' said Shane Lovellette, User Experience Products Manager.

Morae 3 supports Microsoft Windows Vista and XP.

Founded in 1987, TechSmith is online at www.techsmith.com .
