Five Year USAID Contract for Macro

Public policy and social research specialist Macro International has won a $142m, five-year contract to conduct the MEASURE Phase III Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) contract by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Macro is part of ORC owner infoGROUP.

The contract constitutes the Bureau for Global Health's primary demographic and health data collection work. MEASURE DHS surveys typically cover a range of topics including family planning, reproductive health, child health, nutrition, HIV/AIDS and infectious diseases including malaria. This phase will also feature biomarker testing, providing countries with information on national rates of HIV, malaria, anemia and other health threats.

Macro has worked closely with USAID on over 200 surveys since 1979, helping more than 80 developing countries collect and use data to monitor and evaluate their population, health, and nutrition programs.

Project Director Dr Ann Way comments: 'For the new project, we will expand efforts to build local capacity to collect, analyze, and use demographic and health data in close collaboration with our project partners: The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, PATH, CAMRIS, Blue Raster, and The Futures Institute.'
