Official Launch of UK Internet Research Capability for ORC
18/07/00

Global market research consultancy, ORC International officially launched - ORC e-Insight, its integrated approach to Internet research solutions - last week at London's Planet Hollywood.

ORC e-Insight is comprised of a dedicated team of research and programming experts who develop individually tailored online research tools. Financial investment provides research and development resources within the team to develop more effective methodologies for clients.

The core ORC e-Insight services announced at the launch include:
  • Online surveys.
  • Online survey management.
  • Online reporting.
  • Website evaluation.
  • Wireless Technology.

ORC International has been using the Internet and Intranet as market research tools for its clients for several years, but the launch of ORC e-Insight, has allowed the operation to define more clearly the service on offer.

According to ORC International's Managing Director Nigel Maxfield, "The incredible growth of the Internet has opened a new medium of communication. Our clients need to take advantage of this new technology to conduct their market research surveys. Unlike some other research agencies, ORC e-Insight is not being set up as a separate entity, but is instead being incorporated within the overall company structure."

"Although ORC e-Insight focuses on looking at ways to use the Internet to improve market research, we strongly believe that to be successful, the online methods must work in harmony with the more traditional approaches. We believe that online market research is not automatically the best solution for clients, which is why we're developing it as part of our total research approach. The strength behind ORC e-Insight is that we recognise the Internet can be potentially used across all aspects of a research project and is not limited to being just a survey and communication tool. ORC International's approach to incorporate the traditional with the modern will mean the client will be able to benefit from the best of both worlds."

BT research manager, Chris Watkins, spoke at the launch about how BT and ORC International had worked in partnership to develop BT's online employee survey. In his presentation he described the benefits gained by using the Internet and Intranet for employee research, and highlighted some of the potential pitfalls.
