New Survey On Internet Child Privacy

According to a new survey of 1,000 online consumers by @plan Institute for Online Commerce, 78% of online adults and 77% of online parents say they are very concerned about protecting the rights and privacy of children under eighteen.

However, 67% of those respondents do not want government regulators or the industry to control Internet content. In fact, most online adults believe it is the parent's responsibility to monitor children's Internet material.

In addition, the survey revealed the following findings:

  • 67% were very concerned about what someone might discover about an individual child online.

  • 66% were very concerned about the kind of people an individual child may meet online.

  • 61% were very concerned about the kind of pictures an individual child might see online.

  • 42% were very concerned about the language an individual child might hear or read online.

  • 24% were very concerned about how much time an individual child spends online.
