New research from the Internet monitoring company on the UK online music retail market shows that the top three music websites have maintained their position without interruption since April. These are streetsonline.co.uk, amazon.co.uk in second place and amazon.com in third place. mp3.com and bol.com have both featured in the top five websites in this period, with peoplesound.com ranking as the 4th most visited music site in August. However, from May to July, boxman.co.uk experienced a steady decline in unique visitors at home, and when compared to the other businesses in this market, boxman’s market share was significantly smaller. Indeed, Boxman failed to enter the NetValue rankings in August. Boxman has not fared well on the French market either as boxman.fr disappeared from the NetValue rankings after April 2000; FNAC has consistently held the number one position for music retail sites in France this year.
