Online Polling Website Success
10/1/01

Harris Interactive has been running what it claims to be the only American online poll website for some time now. To date, the site has achieved a fair degree of recognition, scoring a ranking in the Media Metrix Top 50. According to this audit, the site has the honour of being one of the 50 most visited web sites in the States at the present time.

Latest visitor figures released before Christmas show that www.harrispollonline.com attracted over 6.4 million unique individuals during November. This places it at number 47 on the current list. Site figures are thought to have peaked due to the positive pulling power of the American election running at that tine. The score represents an increase of over 30% from the 4.9 million unique visitors to the site in March 2000, the first time Harris Interactive made the list at 49th.

harrispollonline conducts its research by gaining the permission of respondents to send them email invitations to complete research surveys. The site does not contain advertising or promotions, and names or individual survey responses are not disclosed at all. Individuals are allowed to respond to as many invitations as they like, and they can unsubscribe from the panel at any time via a simple email.

According to Dr. Gordon S. Black, chairman and CEO of Harris Interactive, "The fact that Harris Poll Online had almost six and a half million visitors in November is a very real demonstration of both the tremendous growth in our Internet research activity and Harris Interactive's competitive lead. For our election predictions alone, we surveyed over 300,000 potential voters during a six-day period immediately preceding the election. At the peak hours of interviewing, Harris Interactive processed more than 40,000 online surveys, including 7,800 simultaneous interviews. We have the knowledge and technology to easily handle this volume."
