Online Shopping Habits Examined by NFO Interactive
11/1/01

According to the latest research from NFO Interactive in the 2000 Online Retail Monitor, nearly three fifths (58%) of current Net shoppers are now actually female. Gender aside, the habit is fairly confined. Those who do shop online are concentrated into clusters of committed – three quarters of all online purchases are made by only one quarter of online shoppers.

NFO Interactive’s Monitor is a bi-annual study examining the buying habits, attitudes and trends of those buying online. A total of 2,134 online users were surveyed in 2000, both buyers and non-buyers.
Some of the other key findings include:

  • Four fifths (80%) of the sample have actually transacted online at some point.
  • Security continues to be the main concern to all users. In analysing individuals who state that they are unlikely to make a purchase online in the future, 72% were distinctly worried about the issue.
  • Over two fifths (41%) of those surveyed said they would feel more confident in a site if they could email a sales representative for customer service. An additional 45% said they would visit a site more if that email were responded to within 12 hours.
