Annual BMRA Conference and Dinner

The countdown is on for the BMRA conference and award dinner, to be held next week on Thursday the 8th February. The conference, at the Royal Society of Arts, is being sponsored by Marketing Week

The conference is the setting for presentations of the winning papers from the British Market Research Awards. The winner will be announced at the prestigious Awards dinner at the Savoy Hotel and a Grand Prix prize, sponsored by Admap, will be presented to the overall winner. Those attending the gala meal will also enjoy an after-dinner speech from novelist and political commentator, Michael Dobbs.

Three speakers of particular note during the day are:


  • Patricia Hewitt, MP and Minister for Small Business and e-Commerce at the DTI. She reports directly to the Prime Minister on information age issues as Britain’s first Minister for e-Commerce. Prior to this role, she was the Economic Secretary at the Treasury. Ms Hewitt is expected to discuss market research and Europe’s new Internet economy.
  • Simon Jeffreys, lawyer advising the BMRA on employment matters. He is currently looking at the Government’s interpretation of employment law. He is expected to discuss the background to the MR industry’s concern over field-forces, and explore how Government can be influenced in terms of legislation.
  • Chris Powell, Chairman of BMP DDB advertising agency. Mr Powell enjoys high regard within advertising circles, and is also a life-long Labour activist. In this capacity, he has acted as a principal advisor to Labour on advertising. He is also the author of a recently published a book entitled "How the Left Learned to Love Advertising"
