Online Market Research Forum, June 2001
22/5/01

A number of the UK's big names in Internet research will be speaking at the IQPC workshop and conference from 20th to 22nd June in London. Looking at the increasingly important subject of researching online, the event will help market researchers make the most of new media and technology. A few places are still available.

It is becoming clearer that the Internet can increase the speed and efficiency of market research. It can also outperform many traditional methodologies in terms of accuracy, reaching target audiences, attaining consumer insight and ongoing feedback, and managing major surveys. In fact, as the conference itself will detail, General Mills Co. is so confident that Internet research will surpass traditional methods that the company has moved up to 80% of its research activity online.

The pre-conference workshops are broken into morning and afternoon choices. In the morning, the options are:

  • An A-Z of When and How to Use Online Research – Paul Milsom, Associate Director, Media@BMRB.
  • How to Design and Implement Web Based Surveys – Kate O’Donnell, Research Manager, ORC International.

The afternoon options are:

  • Online Qualitative Research – Conducting Focus Groups via the Internet – Michael Herbert, Managing Director, Michael Herbert Associates.
  • How to Conduct Effective Website Research – Pete Comley, Managing Director, Virtual Surveys Ltd.

The conference itself is a full day of discussion on every aspect of research online. The keynote address has been confirmed as "Online Market Research Vs Traditional Methodologies", to be given by Jeff Hunter, the Director of Best Practices and Internet Research at the General Mills Co. Other speeches will focus on Net research in Europe, online data collection regulations, accuracy and Net research, sampling online, differing methodologies online and combining the best of traditional and new media techniques.
