The Tricks to Online Shopping for the Young
10/7/01

Shopping online for most young people remains a tricky business. Too young or unable to apply for credit cards a number of new schemes are emerging to tackle this problem in a variety of ways. Although the opportunities are enormous the risk of failure is also high. A two day conference, New Ways of Spending Online for Teens and Youth, organised by Access Conferences on July 11th and 12th in London, provides a unique forum to explore industry developments, examining the potential for expansion as well as the highlighting the possible pitfalls.

Industry speakers include Adam Hildreth the 16year old Managing Director of Dubit, set up by teenagers disappointed with resources for young people on the Internet. Dubit is the youngest ever limited company where all the directors are aged between 12 and 17. The operation’s main premise is that no-one knows the teenage market better than teenagers themselves - and the company’s own teenage board has enabled Dubit to create the most popular teen website in the UK. At the same time, it has developed a Debit Card using established banking systems – and consider that treating teens as adults, and not as a special case, is the key to the loyalty of young people.

Other speakers include:

  • Mike Bloxham from Netpoll
  • Jonathon Penny from Barclays Bank.
  • Barbie Clarke from NOP Family.
  • Philippe Dufour from Splash plastic
  • Myles Nicholson from BT openworld.
  • Paul Bevan from Unisys.
