Welcome to MrWeb's HRchive

If you work in skills and recruitment areas in the market research industry, the HRchive is for you. Here you'll find stats and articles based on the huge amount of information passing through MrWeb since the year 1998, and you can contribute your thoughts and read those of others in your profession on the HR issues of the day.

New for 2009 - UK MR salary and recruitment stats

The section has been relaunched in summer 2009 with new salary and vacancy stats available covering 2006-9. The figures show the impact of recession on an industry previously in good health - but also that some roles never enjoyed the salary boom others did, even in the good times...

Underneath, you'll find a much shorter-term snapshot of job numbers and salaries currently on the site - this is updated daily.

Current UK vacancy numbers and salaries
Level No. Jobs £ Avge Level No. Jobs £ Avge
JRE 21 21900       AD 183 53800
RE 98 24900   Direc 72 75700
SRE 192 29600   Field 17 25900
PM 190 37400   IT / DP 40 29800
RM 49 45400   Other 116 29400

The table shows the number of UK vacancies at each level on MrWeb at present, and the mean salary for all such jobs. Note that a large number of older job ads are often removed during the first week of a month, so you may see a sharp drop in numbers and a significant change in salaries around this time. NB only ads with salaries stated are included in the table.

Golden oldies:

Five years ago:

BusDev - the skill we don't have? Articles from MRWho 2004:

Business Development - trends and opinions on the skill we famously don't have, from the November 04 MRWho.

June '04: Hot Half Dozen - six fast growing UK agencies.

Other old but not particularly time-sensitive content - still appropriate.

What candidates want
What candidates are out there and what they're looking for, based on jobseeker registrations and anecdotal feedback.

Wording vacancy ads
What tends to work and what doesn't - an article from the Nov 2002 MRWho based on candidate feedback, the wisdom of our recruitment consultant advertisers and our own experience from our first 10,000 ads [little has changed now on this particular topic, as it approaches 65,000 ads - the rules of good copy writing are the same]

Love 'n Hate [e - archive]
Some (occasionally extreme...) views of woroking in MR, from the 30 issues of MRWho. Consider these light reading with possible anecdotal value, rather than a representative sample.

Comment & Debate - Issues in MR Recruitment
Features articles on 'getting the most from your recruitment agency', recent legislation affecting recruiters and changes in the role of 'field', by recruitment experts... and Nick Thomas.

From 2006 - regard as a starter and check the web sites it lists for many changes:
