Katugas Launches TweetQuant Service

In the UK, Katugas Research Services has launched a system which categorises posts on Twitter according to their content.

Katugas says that even though 'Tweets' may contain the same keywords, not all of them will be about the same subject. So, for example, conversations about a brand name may include mentions of different product ranges associated with that brand, or different statements about the brand itself.

To separate the comments, the firm's team code the Tweets in the same way they code open-ended verbatim responses in a survey. This, the company says, avoids the need for combining complex searches, while providing clients with a quantified report regarding conversations about them on Twitter.

Using social media monitoring analysis service Radian6, Katugas selects Tweets about a particular brand over a given time, and then uploads them to Language Logic's Ascribe coding system. This enables a list of categories to be built, which is then applied to the Tweets.

Any conversations that are not automatically categorised are checked. New categories are added where necessary and remaining Tweets are manually categorised.

Bristol-based Katugas, which was founded in 2007, provides market research and social media monitoring to clients throughout the UK.
