Media Monitors Speeds Up PPM Data Turnaround

US broadcast and cable tracking firm Media Monitors has upgraded its partnership with Arbitron, to provide clients with data from the latter's PPM service within a week, compared with the previous arrangement of 21 days.

Philippe GeneraliSubscribers of Media Monitors' Mscore and Audience Reaction services - which combine listener instant reaction data from Arbitron's PPM (Portable People Meter) service with its own airplay information - will now receive the data within 5 days after the end of the measured week.

The PPM is a mobile phone-sized device that travels with an individual and keeps a record of their exposure to encoded audio. Data from the PPM is added to the Media Monitors' Mscore index, which measures the extent of switching behaviour that occurs among PPM panelists when songs are played on the radio; and the Audience Reaction service, which enables radio broadcasters to examine minute-to-minute panelist behavior while listening to all programming.

'Our customers were asking for more current data,' explains Media Monitors President and CEO Philippe Generali. 'This announcement means that radio stations will be able to have updated Mscore data within a week and get an earlier indication of how changes in programming may impact their audience.'
