Broadcaster Ordered to Resume PPM Encoding
Arbitron has secured a Temporary Restraining Order from a US court, immediately requiring Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc. (SBS) to resume encoding its broadcasting signals for the PPM in accordance with the contract between the two firms.
The Supreme Court of the State of New York for the County of New York ordered SBS to resume encoding until next Tuesday, February 16, when a new ruling will decide whether to continue the order.
Arbitron learnt on February 4 that SBS had ceased encoding signals in nine properties in five cities across the US - those where Arbitron has commercialized the PPM ratings service.
The radio ratings giant also confirmed that it had suspended delivery of PPM data to SBS in December 2009. Chief Legal Officer Timothy T. Smith stated: 'SBS has existing contracts with Arbitron for both the PPM service and to encode its broadcast signals that remain in effect. We expect SBS to honor the terms of its agreements.'
