IMS Research Expands to Korea

US electronics market research firm IMS Research has expanded its operations to Seoul, Korea, where it has appointed two analysts focused on the display, LED and consumer electronics market.

Ross YoungIMS Research has headquarters in Wellingborough, UK and offices in Austin, Texas, and Shanghai, China. Last year, the company acquired Young Market Research (YMR), which provides marketing intelligence and consulting in the solar, solid-state lighting and display industries.

Seoknam (Nam) Kim joins the firm's new office as Korea Research Director. Most recently, he worked for venture capital firm ITEK Investment, where he was responsible for the valuation of start-ups and technologies in the display and semiconductor industries. Prior to this, Kim worked for Samsung and LG Display (previously LG Philips).

Paul Erickson has also joined the new office as Senior CE Research Analyst. For more than 10 years, he has focused on consumer electronics, pay and broadcast TV, and digital content. Prior to joining, he was the Director of DVD and HD Market Research at DisplaySearch. During his career, he has performed competitive analysis for IBM and Vignette Corporation, as well as having consulted for Dell, Compaq, Silicon Graphics and AT&T.

In his new role, Erickson will focus on topics such as premium pay-TV content, Internet-delivered video, pay-TV operator ecosystems and digital set-top boxes.
