Arizona Research Firm to Close

Tucson, AZ-based MR firm Marketing Intelligence 'will close' at the end of the month after more than a decade in business, according to press reports.

Many of the firm's customers are government departments, community organizations and educational institutions.

Marketing Intelligence was founded in 1999 by former University of Arizona Eller College of Management professor Kapil Jain, who now takes a part-time role in the firm when not teaching at the University of Texas in Austin.

Jain's business partner and the firm's lead researcher Chris Baker will next month join ad research agency Communicus as a Research Director. Baker, who holds an MBA from the UA's Eller College and has taught marketing research there, says the company has had a 'rough time' during the economic downturn. He told Inside Tucson Business (www.azbiz.com ): 'Though we were pretty well diversified in terms of clients and industries, everyone is cutting back on marketing and research'.

The three person team also includes bilingual project manager Doraliz Vega, who is currently Treasurer for the Tucson Chapter of the American Marketing Association.

Baker says the team wanted to 'make it through together or die trying', rather than cutting back any further.
