NPD and Best Buy Extend POS Agreement

The NPD Group and electronics retailer Best Buy Co. have extended their agreement to share point-of-sale data for a further two and a half years.

Until at least February 2013, Best Buy will continue to participate on NPD's retailer panel and provide store level POS data for all major CE and IT categories, wireless from Best Buy Mobile, and both small and major appliances from its brick & mortar and ecommerce channels. Best Buy for Business will also be joining NPD's Commercial Technology panel.

The giant technology and entertainment retailer has operations in the US, Canada, Europe, China, Mexico and Turkey and generates more than $49 billion in annual revenue thanks to the efforts of around 180,000 employees.

Don Unser, Group President of NPD's Retail Business Group, commented: 'We are pleased to continue our 16 year relationship with Best Buy and to provide the best possible understanding of today's dynamic marketplace for all of our clients.'

In April, Best Buy hired former CIA Intelligence Officer Bill Hoffman as Senior Vice President, Consumer Insights, aiming for a rapid expansion of its insight function.
