George Terhanian Leaves Harris

George Terhanian, Harris Interactive's long-time European chief and more recently in charge of its US Centers of Excellence, is to leave the firm at the end of the month 'to pursue another career opportunity'.

An SEC filing said Terhanian tendered his resignation on September 10 and will 'assist with an orderly transition of his responsibilities and work to senior management' before departing. No severance payments have been made or are owed to him.

Joining the company in 1996 after working as a schoolteacher in the US, Terhanian relocated to the UK in 2002 and in September of that year took charge of the development of the firm's European Internet panels. He was European President of the firm when it acquired Paris-based online agency Novatris in March of 2004, and when it lost its HI Europe identity in 2004 and resumed the Harris Interactive name he became President of European Operations and Global Internet Research. He assumed additional responsibilities with the resignation of UK MD Aled Morris in June 2006, and was back on the acquisition trail with the purchase of Hamburg-based MediaTransfer AG Netresearch & Consulting in April the following year.

In December 2008 Terhanian returned to the US in Kimberly Till's restructure, as President of Global Solutions, with a remit to oversee the firm's new Centers of Excellence, direct its NPD process and manage its high profile Harris Poll. In May 2009 Robert Salvoni replaced him as UK and European Managing Director.

At this point, both Terhanian's future plans and Harris' plans for replacing him are unknown.
