Parisian Rendezvous for Rentrak
Rentrak and Paris-based Cine Chiffres have announced the formation of a joint venture which will monitor cinema box office figures throughout France, from 1st January 2011.
Both companies are already active in the French box office: Cine Chiffres, formerly part of global media company Arnoldo Mondadori, has been the primary provider of theatrical box office receipt
measurement, primarily in Paris and its suburbs, for nearly 40 years, reaching more than 90% of French movie industry participants; while Rentrak has been measuring box office receipts in France for 13 years. The formation of the new company, using Rentrak's proprietary theatrical box office technology, will provide the French movie measurement market with an enhanced data source.
Sylvain Laurendeau, formerly Business Manager for Cine Chiffres and now Head of Client Service and Communication for Rentrak Cine Chiffres, says: 'Rentrak gave the film industry its first view of worldwide film performance, and we are excited to join forces with them to create Rentrak Cine Chiffres. Rentrak acquired Nielsen EDI, a division providing measurement information and research solutions to the movie industry, a year ago today in a $15m Deal. Last month, it reported a 13% increase in revenues to $24m for the fiscal 2011 second quarter.
