Wong Back on the Map with Raydar

In Malaysia Kym Wong, former Pulse Group COO, has set up Raydar Research, a new company offering data collection through mobile and online platforms.

Kym WongWong was COO of Asian-based panels and MR outsourcing company Pulse Group for five years, before leaving to establish the new company. Raydar partners with telco operators around the world to provide access to millions of their subscribers through its mPanel. Wong says this panel is particularly suitable for accessing respondents in countries where Internet penetration is low, but where mobile penetration is relatively high.

His firm has also introduced a mobile survey platform called ECHO that allows distribution of its online surveys on both mobile phones and PCs simultaneously.

To prevent multiple survey-taking or duplicates, ECHO captures a digital fingerprint for each respondent and phone, using information such as IP address, operating system, browser and GPS location.

The tool can be used for 'pull' surveys, where a respondent enters a survey link to launch the poll on their mobile device, as well as for 'push' surveys, where questionnaires are pushed to online panels via mobile e-mails or SMS. It can also be used by interviewers to conduct face-to-face surveys with the help of their own cellphones.

'We have built a very versatile mobile data collection tool that will empower research companies to be more agile, cost effective, and relevant,' states Wong. 'ECHO is a ubiquitous mobile data collection tool that works across all mobile devices, from basic feature phones to smart devices, and across all operating systems and mobile browsers.'
